Meeting the New CNC Technicians at Olsen Metal

There was a hum of concentration and the occasional spark of welding arcs as I walked to the back of the production hall at Olsen Metal, sheet metal forming experts.

Behind separate curtains, our two newly certified machinists, Anton and Johan, were fully immersed in their welding tasks—Anton working alongside a robot, Johan focused on his own project. Their safety gear was in place, and though they were deep in concentration, they still acknowledged my presence with a quick nod as I came by to congratulate them on earning their certifications.

As always at Olsen Metal, there was a friendly atmosphere, and even in the midst of their work, they greeted me warmly—thoughtful young professionals, indeed. They even took a moment to offer me a cup of coffee.

Choosing Their New Title

While we stood in the production hall, I asked them what their new official title should be. Our company website still listed them as “Apprentices,” but that needed an update. They exchanged glances, considering the best way to describe their new role. Given their expertise in modern metal fabrication and metal spinning, they agreed that CNC Machinist was the most fitting title – encompassing the broad range of skills they had mastered, from programming and operating CNC machines to welding and precision engineering.

Advancing in Metal Fabrication and CNC Machining

Though they weren’t working on CNC machines at that moment, both Anton and Johan have gained extensive experience in CNC programming and machining during their apprenticeships. At Olsen Metal, we utilize advanced CNC machines, from Leifeld, to ensure top-quality metal fabrication. They have learned to program these machines, which precisely cut and shape metal components, cooling them with water while seamlessly switching between different tools.

After our conversation, they took a short break to show me their welding projects, which I captured for LinkedIn—both action shots of them at work and, of course, a group photo of the two together. The pride in their accomplishment was evident.

We also had another newly certified machinist, Daniel, who recently completed his vocational training. He has since moved on to new adventures, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors. We are proud to have been part of his journey, knowing that he carries with him the strong skills and knowledge gained during his apprenticeship at Olsen Metal.
